Maggie had another speech therapy session today, with Maricarol this time. She brought a guest, a new bilingual therapist. Maggie likes company, so this was fine with me.

Maggie has really made great strides, lots of progress. Maricarol brought out her evaluation sheet and updated it - in the 3 1/2 months they've been working with her, she's caught up 6 months on expressive language and almost a year on receptive language!

We're also just starting to get over the edge in using words together. Not "all done" or "oh no", that she learned as all one word, but putting two different words together, like "ball please". I'd been getting her to repeat one word and then the other - like when she wanted the balloon down, I'd say "down" and get her to repeat it, then "please", and get her to repeat that. ("peees!") But she couldn't repeat "down please". In therapy today we got "ball please" and "please ball", as well as "big bubble" which we'd gotten once before. She's really starting to get the idea, and once she gets that, I'm hoping lots more about how language goes together will snowball.

Jamie's on the floor on the boppy, and Maggie's playing. She brings him his new baby toy, a little butterfly rattle in a textured circle for him to hold. Praised her for giving it to him. Then later she decided SHE wanted it, and went to take it from him. He did his best to hang on to it, and there was actually a little tug of war. He cried when she got it away, and when I retrieved it and gave it back, he giggled. Must make sure Maggie learns she is NOT queen of the universe, despite her earnest beliefs.
