Further comment - when you're a socknitter with size 10 wide feet, you convert and mess around with patterns, or you give up and stop knitting, I think! (And don't even talk to me about people who say just convert to a larger size by going up a needle size! Good socks are all about a firm fabric with a tight gauge.)
