Just before I went on the trip to my parents a couple weeks ago, the sweater got to where I needed to do the button band, and needed the buttons first. So I grabbed a couple skeins of Knitpicks Essential sock yarn in pine (http://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/itemid_5420133/yarn_display.aspx) and cast on socks. I'm doing a gentleman's sock pattern from the Knitting Vintage Socks book that bkseiver gave me for Christmas. It's nice, basically a K2P2 cuff for 20 rounds, then you do 2 rows knit, 8 rows P2K2, 2 rows knit, 8 rows K2P2, etc - except you're starting with 80 stitches, and slowly shaping the back of the cuff down so that you're at 72 stitches by the ankle. I'm extending the pattern down into the toe, paring it off at the edges. I think it came out nicely. Now I just need to finish the 2nd one.
