In other news, eco-conscious household supplies manufacturer Seventh Generation is sponsoring a very cool project, somewhat along the lines of The Hunger Site and similar web-clicky-donation things.

Women’s shelters in the U.S. go through thousands of tampons and pads monthly, and, while agencies generally assist with everyday necessities such as toilet paper, diapers, and clothing, this most basic need is often overlooked. You and I may take our monthly trips down the feminine care aisle for granted, but, for women in shelters, a box of tampons is five dollars they can’t spare. Here’s some good news: you can help us contribute to rectifying this situation by making a virtual donation below!
For each virtual donation, Seventh Generation will send a pack of organic cotton tampons or chlorine-free pads to a shelter in your state.

I've donated. When I had more money and was doing Any Soldier packages regularly, tampons and pads were something I sent a lot of.

I am a bit put off by the "organic cotton tampons or chlorine-free pads". These items usually cost two or three dollars more than the usual grocery-store kind. This makes a reference to us taking our monthly trip down the feminine hygiene aisle for granted, but I know *my* feminine hygiene aisles don't sell organic cotton tampons and chlorine-free pads--and I'm in southern California! I think I'd take this a little more seriously if I didn't feel they were blowing money in order to get green products, which I myself can't afford and think it's just FUD behind them anyway.

Seventh Generation, the company apparently doing the donating, is a "green" company, IIRC the name I pass in the "green/organic" section of the grocery store -- so that they'd be sending their own stock is reasonable. They probably want to promote name recognition.

I'm sticking with my Always pads, though. Hang-glider wings and all.

Not a fan of Always myself. They make me feel like I have masking tape on my nads. I go green myself and use a Keeper.

Whoops, looks like they don't sell the Keeper in North America anymore. Divacup is the same thing in silicone so I'll be getting one of those as my Keeper's starting to show signs of wear.

Instead is a disposable "Keeper" like product. I've started using them and LOVE them. I don't do it because it's better for the environment, I do it because my body likes it better.

I've tried them, but they don't work with my internal landscape. I do use the Keeper for the environment. I've had mine 7 years now.

I tried one of those types of things once, can't remember what brand. It and I did not do well together. I used to use the cotton GladRags. Nowadays I have my Mirena implant, which is marvelous, because effectively I no longer need such things at all.
