Three good things
May. 19th, 2004 02:26 pmMy friend from the UU church came by today, and we started on teaching her to knit socks. And this was good. She'd knit some in high school, but not for a long time, and then it had been big needles. She feels terribly awkward, but actually she's doing quite well. I showed her different sock yarns, other weight yarns, discussed the anatomy of a sock and some of the various possibilities, showed her the needles that were my first guess for a good size for her, discussed different ways to hold the yarn and make the stitches, then did a quick small cast on in the round and a few rows of ribbing and then set her up to start working on a stockinette swatch in the round, so we can check gauge. We set it aside and will work more together on it soon. She picked the deep purple Kroy sock yarn. That one came out better in person than on the computer screen, I may want to order more of that sometime.
She's the childcare coordinator at the church, and knows my kids well. And she volunteered to play with Jamie while Maggie was doing speech therapy with Kathy. So I got to completely concentrate on working with Maggie and Kathy, and not have to take care of the baby, and that was good.
And Maggie did really well in speech therapy. She's made incredible progress. Next week they're going to be doing a reevaluation on her. And this is good, too.
