One of the books that [livejournal.com profile] selenite recently had me reading was talking about human languages and that one of their properties was - I forget the technical term - that you could invent sentences that you'd never said or heard before, but you could still understand them.

I find this happens a lot as a parent.

"Dear, when you have a moment could you move the chair and get the toys out of the fireplace?" is just not a sentence I'd expected to ever say before having these kids.

Maggie is a little squirrel, she is. The ComfyChair up against the fireplace keeps her out of it, but she can still reach through the top corner and drop stuff in. [livejournal.com profile] selenite comments that we'll need to very carefully inspect the fireplace if we should ever want to light a fire in it.
