parental sentences

selenite recently had me reading was talking about human languages and that one of their properties was - I forget the technical term - that you could invent sentences that you'd never said or heard before, but you could still understand them.
I find this happens a lot as a parent.
"Dear, when you have a moment could you move the chair and get the toys out of the fireplace?" is just not a sentence I'd expected to ever say before having these kids.
Maggie is a little squirrel, she is. The ComfyChair up against the fireplace keeps her out of it, but she can still reach through the top corner and drop stuff in.selenite comments that we'll need to very carefully inspect the fireplace if we should ever want to light a fire in it.
