autism parent panel
Jun. 28th, 2004 04:34 pmThis week Brendan is serving as a guinea pig/Sample Autistic Child for the Region XI teacher training. I'm pretty excited about the opportunity - it lets us help the school districts, and the local teachers are hoping the instructors will give them good recommendations specific to Brendan. This afternoon they had the parent panel, where some of the parents came to answer questions and talk to the teachers about our kids. I arranged to have
selenite take the afternoon off so I could go to this.
I expected more parents, but there were only two of us. I had an absolutely wonderful time. I wrote down some ISDNs of some books they had lying around that I want to get. I talked afterwards to the other parent and talked about diet issues some. I ended up explaining about the gfcf diet to the teachers some, too. When did I turn into a GFCF diet advocate? It snuck up on me somehow.
Afterwards on the way home I realized I felt totally jazzed, excited, downright high. Then I realized - right, I'm normally an isolated stay-at-home mom who rarely gets adult conversation. Here I was with a whole room of people listening intently to what I had to say! Wow, what a rush!
