SCA again

So tonight we finally, after all this time, got to the local SCA baronial populace meeting.

It's held in the Hospitality room of the local Coors distributor. First time I've ever seen an SCA meeting where you could go buy a drink on the side, and when the closing verbiage included "bar closing in ten minutes!"

We'd dug out our garb, as the website had said they meet garbed. We got there and found and introduced ourselves to the hospitaler/chronicler, who introduced us to a few others, including the baroness. The current Ansteorran prince was there, he's local and he and his lady will be crowned in just under 2 weeks. (At one point he was showing off a t-shirt for his son. "Who's your daddy? My daddy's the king.")

We were mostly enjoying ourselves, well, I was. [livejournal.com profile] selenite was getting tired out chasing Brendan. Although he did make a friend, Daniel came up and introduced himself to Brendan and took him off to play. I had Jamie in the sling. Maggie got admired by various people, and other than falling out of a chair, did fairly well. I listened to the reports, and am now kicking myself for not having clearly caught the outgoing A&S minister's name. But then I'd never actually heard it spoken before, only written.

Then they asked any newcomers to stand and introduce themselves. Since [livejournal.com profile] selenite was in the back of the room with the kids, I did so for us. And the outgoing A&S minister squealed "oh, you made it!". Turned out she's Lady Rixende, whom I'd known from the apprentice list, and who'd been excited when I said I was moving to that area. I've been no-mail on the list for a long time. Looks like I'm about to go back active on it. It was just lovely being welcomed, and Rixende then proceeded to "brag" on me and tell the group about my fiber arts and such. (And she'd just been mentioning that she was the incoming royalty's tailor, and needed weavers for trim. I expect I'm about to get drafted to dig my weaving stuff out. If she wants metallic brocade I swear I am saying NO.)

Afterwards people were going over to the Cracker Barrel for dinner, and we went along. That was fun. Brendan and Daniel (who's Rixende's son) ate and played off at a side table. Maggie and especially Jamie got flirted with and held. (Another thing I LOVE about Texas - so far out here meeting baby-friendly, heck downright baby-enthusiastic people, is the NORM. In California it was definitely the exception.) We had fun talking with Rixende and Tomas, and [livejournal.com profile] selenite chatting with Timothy and ... I'm not sure how to spell her name Anas-something, or Kate. I got into parts of that conversation over his shoulder. Anyway, we had a good time. I'm wondering if we can make it to at least part of the upcoming Coronation and 25th Kingdom Anniversary, Brendan will be out of town then which would make it a BIT easier.

I've missed the SCA. I don't know how much we'll be able to do, but I am looking forward to seeing more of these people.

Okay, good. Because I tried that. Gack. Someday when the kids are grown I will probably do brocaded trim. But I don't know if I'll ever do it with metal thread. Hate hate hated the feel of the stuff.

What kind of weaving DO you have in mind?

YEAH!!!! I'm glad you made it to populace. When I read that it was at the Coors plant I knew exactly where you were. Tell Rixende & Tomas HI from Groa & Snorri *grin*. Timothy's wife's name is Anezhka (that's a phonetical spelling), and she's quite a wonderful knitter.

BTW, I'm GrĂ³a Ulfsdottir and I live in Stargate. I'm the A&S coordinator for the upcomming Argent Anniversary celebration. I really hope you and your family can make it to the event. All the A&S activities will be in the air conditioned Great Hall & there will be tons of childrens activities.
