I don't always do this, but sometimes when I'm writing up a post I'll think of just the right song to go with the post. And then I'll have to go find that song and play it. I enjoy doing this. Perhaps it's just a one-time DJ's equivalent of picking just the right wine to go with the fancy dish? It can be a song that goes with the post, or maybe even just the title does.

So I want to know if I'm the only one who does this. Do any of you do this?

Have any of you ever ripped a CD just to get a song for this, and rationalized it because hey, it was really a good idea to get the music on your computer for playing there, you needed to do it anyway, sooner or later?

What are some of your favorite songs for this?

Never done it. I might pick just the right song to go with a post, but I don't have to rip any of them. I spent one verrrrrrrrrrry loooooooooong day ripping every CD in the house onto the iMac (and thence to the iBook and G4 via the LAN) so they could be put on the iPod. Since then, every new CD gets ripped as soon as it enters the house.

I do it all the time.

As for favorite songs, nothing springs to mind, which shows I have a bad memory.

No, but I have posted because I wanted the current song to show up ;-)

Oh gosh no, you are not alone. I get in the mood for a particular song for no apparent reason just about every day. There are some songs that I will play on continuous repeat for HOURS if I'm in the mood. "Into the West" from the RETURN OF THE KING soundtrack took up an entire work day once.

Then there are a very few songs that I will download from iTunes, paying the 99 cents and everything, because I Just Needed It without buying the whole CD. Particularly when I'm making up a themed playlist. I have a playlist all about FOOD, which just needed Jimmy Buffet's "Cheeseburger in Paradise" to be complete.
