Hall costume
Feb. 23rd, 2004 08:34 amSo ConDFW was GREAT fun, and I will be posting more about it when I've had breakfast. But somebody had asked what my planned hall costume was. I was Caria, widow of Palma, from Lois McMaster Bujold's book _Paladin of Souls_.
Here's a picture of the outfit that Nancy Barber posted. In the story she's described as wearing the Mother's greens in mismatched dark hues, a straw hat, and the five braided pilgrim ribbons from her sleeve, in the colors and order described. I added my "vest cloak" as that's usually described as a Chalionese garment, and the widow's coif.
I walked out of our room to head off for Lois's 10 am reading, alone as Karl sent me off while he waited for the slightly overdue babysitter, and as the elevator door opened there was Lois. She said I had the first Chalionese costume she had seen. That was a thrill. Before the reading people took pictures of her and a couple took them of ME, and Lois commented that the widow's coif really made the costume. I'm SO glad I did that.
