catching up on a busy weekend
Jun. 27th, 2004 03:17 pmIt has been a busy weekend so far. The Great Experiment In Sleep Deprivation continues to new heights, or possibly lows, but that's okay.
I hit 14 garage sales Saturday morning with Brendan. I was dearly hoping to find a bicycle for him. He wants one, and I'd like to give him one, but we can't really afford a new one. I didn't find one. Which is a pity - this was my big opportunity for a while. Next Saturday I'm likely to be too busy getting ready for our cookout on the 4th, and then after that he'll be gone for three weeks. We did see one garage sale with a kid's bike - it was a girl's bike, and hot pink, but we could have repainted it. But it was a bit too big for him, so that wouldn't be good.
I did, however, find a very bright blue couch that was selling pretty cheaply but in good shape. I bought it. They had a truck and actually followed me home and delivered it into our garage. Yay.
I picked up our babysitter rather later than intended, then we scurried off rather late to our Pagan Parents Meetup, which fortunately was quite close. There was one lady there, and she'd decided to just wait and hang out at the coffeehouse for the hour, in hopes somebody would show up - and as another parent, she understood things can make you late. We joked about the Punctual Pagan Parents Society, must be very low membership. Nice lady - she has 2 kids, the boy is high functioning autistic, on the same diet as Brendan and similar medications. (Which was interesting, we got to talking about that - turns out the problems Brendan had with Singulair are due to its interactions with Adderall, which the doctor/pharmacy should have known about.) She's from a Celtic tradition, and just moved out here two weeks ago from New Mexico. It was a lovely chat. We had Jamie with us, and he was much admired. We hope to chat with her more.
We came back home, handed Jamie over to the babysitter, and then
selenite and I went to work on the plan for the afternoon, further unpacking and organizing of my study upstairs. It's getting done slowly, but we have made some significant progress. We decided to put my new BLUE couch in front of the window area, and got it upstairs, with Brendan helping get all the cushions upstairs. (yeah, I haven't enough energy, and he has too much, let HIM make those extra six trips) The couch is great, I like it. There's a pair of pillows that come with it that are yellow with floral designs, which I'd originally thought were too loud, and figured I'd recover them or toss them, but they're growing on me, they add a nice splash of color. The study still has a lot of work to be done (and THEN we have to start on the utter disaster that is the "guest room"), but it's improving, and it makes me feel very good. Makes me feel like there's still some of my life left that's non-Mama, that's ME.
selenite returned the babysitter, and picked up a new cover for the captain's chair, as the back of it went missing in the move. We took him out for dinner, as we'd promised him a belated Father's Day dinner. We managed to finally get some togetherness and talking time for the two of us, even if it did involve outwaiting a Maggie who was Very Very Angry about us trying to put her to bed (even at midnight), and us staying up until after 2. And of course Jamie wanted to nurse in the wee hours. I got maybe 3 hours sleep...
This afternoon he took the van in to be fixed - they can do the oil change and fix the tire now, the sensor for the transmission has to be ordered. While they're working on it he's getting lunch and a haircut.
Anyway, so life is good. Busy, complicated, messy. And good.
