Saturday at ORAC
Aug. 7th, 2004 09:40 pmWe went to the ORACs meeting this afternoon, local fen group. That was fun. It was at the Tyras's house - we met them last month - so we got to see them again, and Louann Miller was there, and we got to meet other fun people. I had an enjoyable time. Sean (Shawn? Tyras) set Brendan up with computer games, driving a bus through Chicago, so he was happy. Maggie got to play with the Very Big Doggie and to socialize with people so she had a great time. I ended up talking shop with Louann and Mary, who's pregnant with her first, and is also a fiber artist. That was much fun.
We definitely have to go to FenCon, and I need to find a babysitter.
selenite is off to a birthday party that is apparently likely to become a drunken party. Yippee.
I tried to rent a video on the way home from the ORAC meeting. I'd been wanting to see Hidalgo, and Lois Bujold has been speaking well of it on the email list, but sadly, they did not have any copies in the rental place. Agh.
So I'm trying to get a bit of knitting done. Did a few rows on the Making Waves sock from the Six Soxs Knitalong on the way to and from the meeting. Now I'm working on a handpuppet for the kids. Gak, this is boring. I've never done this much garter stitch before. I clearly need to find a more interesting knitted handpuppet pattern. I said this earlier, to
selenite, and after a moment of prolonged pointed silence on his part, I said "Okay, or I need to design one." "I didn't say anything," he said.
So, first thing - I need a name for this puppet. Brendan wants to name it after the puppet in Baby Mozart. I want it to have its own name. It is actually being done in red, the leftover from Maggie's Yule stocking. Ideas accepted.
Secondly, anybody know any more interesting knitting handpuppet patterns out there? Not fingerpuppets.
Thirdly, anybody want to offer any interesting suggestions on designing my own? I think I'm getting some ideas of how I'd do a kitten puppet. Trying to decide if it can just be a mouth-and-head thing, with ears, tail, and whiskers, or if I need to make paws somehow.
