Speech therapy and drumming
Sep. 21st, 2004 11:43 amMaggie had speech therapy this morning. She's doing really well - even calls Kathy by name. (Well, "Kahkee", anyway) I'm glad she has it, I'm proud of how well she's doing, and it's really exciting.
But afterwards I'm SOOO wiped out.
I suppose some of it is that before she gets here I'm frantically cleaning up the living room and then vacuuming it (since she's going to be sitting on it with Maggie, after all), and trying to clean what I can of the kitchen, while getting both kids fed, and then getting them upstairs and bathed and dressed in decent clothes before she gets here. (Actually, today Kathy got here while I was getting the kids dressed post bath. Moving a little slow this morning, I am SO tired, plus I pulled a shoulder muscle yesterday.)
But even on days when it's scheduled a bit later I tend to be really wiped out afterwards. I'm embarrassed to admit how often she gets to watch a video after speech therapy just so I can go flop for a bit.
Today she and Kathy were getting into playing with her toy drum. Kathy showed her using a drumstick - literally, the plastic chicken drumstick from the toy food set - and Maggie learned how to hold the drum by the crosspieces in back so as not to dull the sound, and Maggie got into that. And Maggie was marching. She'd drum some, and march some. Kathy assured me that I shouldn't worry, she'd have to be a good bit older before she could figure out the coordination of drumming and marching at the same time. Maggie being Maggie, a few minutes later she started doing some drumming and marching at the same time. Not a lot, but enough to astound Kathy.
I cheered Maggie, and told her we'll have to get her into marching band. She'll be fourth generation marching band, after all. Although then I realized, if I homeschool her, how do I get her into marching band? Have to think on that.
Anyway, so now I'm showing her my Madison Scouts video tape. She could never be in the Madison Scouts, of course, but it's still cool to watch a DC tape. At some point I need to get tapes about some of the other corps, she might want to see some she could aspire to. I told her she could come watch some drumming.
