Another book finished
Mar. 1st, 2005 01:15 pmI'm keeping a record of the books I'm reading this year, having heard the stuff about the "52 book challenge". That's a piece of cake for me, but I am wondering how many books I *do* read a year, and if I could go for more new books and fewer rereads, and get at least 52 NEW books in. Definitely looking at more library runs, now that I have access to the Watauga library and should be able to use TexShare for Fort Worth.
I just finished _Shadow of Saganami_ by David Weber. It was okay. Although really, more and more his books need to be published electronically Wikipedia style, with all the people, planets, and ship names hyperlinked so you can click on them and up pops a little window saying "this guy is captain of THIS ship, which we last heard of as coming from Home Fleet transporting the queen's rep So-and-so on Thusandsuch mission", so when something comes up from his point of view, you can get a CLUE who he's talking about. Because otherwise far too often I'm left going "Who? Sounds vaguely familiar, but I can't place it."
I hate to admit that, afraid people will point and laugh that I can't just keep it all in my head. But I can't.
I think part of why it wasn't a problem in the past was that when one of his books was coming out, I'd go back and reread the series first, because hey, I usually needed more reading anyway. It's gotten longer, and I'm not doing that anymore. Plus _Crown of Slaves_ and _In the Service of the Sword_ I both read from the library quite some time ago, because I am cutting WAY back on buying hardbacks, and now I find I can't remember all the details well. I think I need to reread those, or maybe there's another one in there I've missed. I need to start hunting Half Price Books for the ones I don't have yet. It gets tricky sometimes when out shopping trying to remember which ones I've read and own versus which ones I read from the libary and don't own.
