Well, that was a busy weekend.

Saturday was the ORAC meeting, which was good. I got to chat with lots of people, the kids had fun - I love it that the reaction to a household WITHOUT any kids to my kids arrival was to pull out some toys for them. And everybody's welcoming of the kids, and everybody keeps an eye out for them and helps keep them out of trouble. Darn, I love Texas. I got to talk to Rose about the sock she's knitting - of my fluted banister pattern, preen preen.

Afterwards we started hunting to replace the computer desk. I've been using the old computer desk, pressboard thing that Karl got back in '91. We, really, although this computer became mostly mine once I was staying at home, and now we have Anvil, Karl's computer (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] joyeuse13!), and that's sitting on what was Brendan's homework desk, a white table that I think once upon a time had a drawer but doesn't know, that we got at a church yard sale. The computer desk that I work on has had the old side drawer removed, has been padded at the corners for babyproofing (which is now disintegrating under the assaults of toddlers), and had been slowly dying, bending at one side and bulging over the supports. Then Friday night Karl came over to see something on my screen, leaned on it - and blam, that was it. It sorta holds together now as long as there is no weight on it. We didn't find anything Saturday night.

Sunday early afternoon we went by a place that is apparently a consignment hall, all sorts of little cubby rooms like a maze. ([livejournal.com profile] joyeuse13, like a roomier larger more organized version of the place you took me where I found my writing lap desk.) Lovely, I so want to come back there WITHOUT the kids sometime and wander and look at EVERYTHING. As I figured, any table being shown just as a table was all fancy and high priced - but I knew that lots of tables being used as display tables are also for sale, and we found a nice sturdy wood table the right size for a good price. Karl took the back bench out of the van last night, and I'll go pick it up shortly.

Then after that we went to the North Texas Irish Festival. We were later getting there than I'd like, and had some stress getting there, but once we were there it was fun. Music, and lots of dancing, and fun vendors, and just fun. I got a pretty green shirt with knotwork embroidered on it, and Maggie and I got matching mother-and-daugher sun hats. They're adorable. There will need to be a picture taken at some point, I can tell. We watched lots of dance, the kids LOVED it, Jamie was entranced, Maggie was clapping along. I've decided which local (well, quasi local - NOBODY's local, such is life in the Fort Worth side of DFW) Irish dance school I want to put the kids in when they're old enough. Maggie got to pet animals. The kids got admired. We had funnel cake.

Digression - Next time I get one of MY OWN. I had to share with Karl and the kids. Never have I had a funnel cake I got to eat so little of! Why yes, I'm terribly selfish about funnel cakes. How deep a pot do you need of oil to make those things in, anyway? Because I know I can get funnel cake mix. They're better with cinnamon in the sugar, too. Yum.

We had dinner out on the way home. Both kids fell asleep in the car, and we carried them in and laid them down on the booth seats next to us. Jamie woke up in time to make life difficult for me eating dessert, but Maggie didn't wake until we took her out to the car.

Who was it on my flist that posted the link to that house where the people have done all the wild decorating and have built the amazing cat walks all around the ceilings, with fancy cutouts to go through the wall and such? I've hunted back for a while but I can't find it.

Gerry and [livejournal.com profile] sandy_tyras have loaned us a Blake Hodgetts CD called Blindsight, filk including the song The Great Nebraska Sea. Karl has the book with the story that song is based on, and it was sung at ConDFW Friday night, I brought the lyrics home to him. (I can't believe Louisiana would survive that, really)

But back to the cat thing - I was actually reminded of that house by listening to the song A Habitrail Named Klein. Giggle!
