get real

I am getting SO fed up with all the people screaming about "why aren't they helping the people in New Orleans more? Why aren't the buses there? Why aren't they evacuating the hospitals faster?"

Because there are numbers of the locals who are SHOOTING at the rescuers!

And then these people usually go on about why wasn't there more of a plan, why didn't they have the Army mobilized to go right in as soon as it happened, etc.

Oh fer crying out loud. If they HAD gotten the Army mobilized to go right in as soon as it happened, don't you know what we'd have gotten? People all over throwing righteous fits about "How can you do that, how can you ASSUME that these people will be rioting and looting? That's RACISM! How DARE you!"

Most of the people I'm seeing are all assuming that the government MUST be there taking care of everybody perfectly no matter what, with an infinite budget for their infinitely perfect plan (oh, but don't raise taxes), and the government must do this in a way to please everyone.

So, the angle of the fan/pro/gamer aid effort is shifting on the fly---from one of going in with supplies for those who stayed and pulling out those left homeless, to instead, locating the fans who HAVE evacuated, and relocating them to places they can get back on their feet.

I've been reading this on their website all week, and recommending it to others who asked for good ways to find news. I wish I'd realized earlier I could connect it to my LJ. Duh.

Don't diss the hat

Whew, I just finished the second earflap on the Cunning Jayne Hat for Ryan. Gah. I still have to put the ties on the earflaps, finish the pompom, and attach it. Later. I need a break. Dull tones of yellow, orange, and rusty red are colors I would NOT normally work with. My eyes need a break.

Of course, the next project I have to work on is maroon. But it's a prettier shade, IMO.
