Okay, as decided on the whimsical spur of the moment at FenCon - once
kd4mdk and
jazz007 said they were free that weekend - we have decided to schedule the Gallagher Household Library Cataloging Party and Filksing.
The Readerware software and USB CueCat Have Been Ordered! (Now I just need to finally get AAA batteries again and get the Visor back up. Soon. Real soon.)
We will be having this here at Pearbonded, the Gallagher household, on Saturday, October 8th. Anyone local who wants to come help can leave me an email for directions.
The idea is to get the household library into Readerware and then put back on the shelves alphabetized for the fiction and vaguely categorized for the nonfiction. And to keep me busy and let me have a good time while hopefully keeping me from brooding about my upcoming surgery. And then when we're all done to sing filk. So the more help we get and the more efficiently we work, the more we'll get to sing!
We'll start the library work around 10 am. (Andrew, Jazz, y'all want to come up the night before and crash here?) Pretty much it'll be carrying small piles of books around, and alphabetizing. Getting somebody to spend time playing with the kids and helping keep them out of our collective hair will also be good. We'll get munchies together, and will accept more brought. We'll start filking around 7, or earlier if we get done early.
I am very much looking forward to having everything cataloged, so I can BUY the books I want, rather than staring at them in the store and trying to remember "Do I have this? Did I just read it from the library and swore I'd buy it in paperback? I can't remember!" Also to know how many books we actually HAVE. Also to have them realphabetized so I can FIND them - the fiction section was done shortly after we moved here, but well, we keep buying more books and have slowly lost the organization.
