Sep. 30th, 2005 08:45 pmIt's been an interesting day.
I had a lovely phone chat with
phoenixsinger today, about some exciting things happening in her life. By the time we were done, it was midday and I was belatedly remembering that
selenite and I had discussed meeting for lunch and putting up Serenity fliers. Fortunately he was patient about things, and I bathed the kids, scurried through a shower, dressed, and headed out.
I had to get cash and gas on the way there. I had intended to just get a couple of gallons and let Karl deal with the rest later, but ended up filling the tank out of distraction. Then I heard screeching brakes and looked in time to see a head-on collision in the center turn lane on Saginaw Blvd - a tow truck facing northbound, and a white 4-door sedan southbound. My *guess* from the angle of damage is that the towtruck was sitting waiting to turn, and the sedan wandered into the wrong lane and realized too late and slammed the brakes. The sedan looked pretty totalled. I grabbed my cellphone and called 911 to report it. The towtruck driver got out, and a moment later the other car's driver got out - an older guy, looked really shaky, but at least was able to open the door and get up on his own power, so I figured no, I did not need to run over for emergency first aid. By the time I finished with the gas - the tank was full when I got back to it - got back in and belted and got out to the street, the cops and firetruck were there.
So then we picked up
selenite and had lunch together. That was nice. Then we put up some of the Serenity flyers, and took pictures for the Browncoats board. I took
selenite back to work, and headed home, putting up the rest of the flyers myself.
I thought I was home for the evening, as
selenite had plans to meet friends and coworkers for dinner and go see Serenity. Then I realized late this afternoon that he'd made plans with his friend Nat coming in out of town and had told him to call him on our cellphone. Which... was still in the van. Given that Nat doesn't know the area, and various people haven't recognized
selenite at a distance with the beard, I felt uneasy about this and decided to be helpful and just score up Spouse Points. I remembered the name of the Chinese buffet, looked it up, piled the kids in the car and drove there.
To no use whatsoever. Nat was already there, everybody had found things just fine. However, not just Gerry Tyra but Sandy, Rhiannon and Sean were there, too, so Maggie got to see some of her favorite people, and was alternating laps with Gerry and Sandy. I joined them for dinner, and found various things there I was quite happy to eat, and enjoyed the conversations. They then headed off to the movie,
selenite with the cellphone set to silent tucked into his pocket. Hopefully he'll remember to call me on the way home.
