Maggie, building great connections

Maggie at had a good morning at church today. We got there in good time for once, and had sat down, and I saw Mary and Bruce, her godparents, coming in - pointed them out to Maggie - she went running off for hugs. They had a part in communion, and she saw them, and then afterwards when they were done they came around the sides and were going up to their pew past ours and had Maggie go sit with them for the end of service. There was a parents' class at the same time as Sunday school, with grandparents and godparents too, so Mary was in it with me. Afterwards I went to get the kids, then came back to ask Janelle questions, so Maggie went off with Bruce. I found them later, talking with another lady who was admiring Maggie. She asked Bruce, "Is she yours?" I saw Bruce start to answer no, think about it, grin, and answer "Yes, yes she is". Then he explained they were the godparents. Mary told me Maggie is SUCH a hit with everybody there. I love how many great connections she's making.

Of lawns, sprinklers, and mud

Karl did some backyard lawn work today while the kids were napping. I sat out there and knit and watched, and brought him a drink. Karl was about to head outside with the sturdy metal rake, and was holding it upright. I said "wait a minute" and came over, took his arm, stared straight ahead. He cracked up laughing. He did point out that the tines went in the wrong direction, but it's the closest I've ever seen him to it. For an engineer he does have a good grasp of literature and art.

When she woke up from her nap, we sent Maggie out to play in the sprinkler, wearing just a t-shirt, pullup, and old sandals. She was dubious about it at first. She later went topless and started getting into it. Jamie woke up, so I got him out of Sunday clothes, into shorts and his sandals, and sent him out. I'm looking out the window - he's just discovered the childhood joy of stomping mud puddles. Mud all up his leg and shorts. Oh man, he's going to be quite the cleanup job. But he looks like he's having fun.
