First, let me point you to [livejournal.com profile] misia's post on Mother's Day, which is excellent.

Without them, we wouldn't be here. I don't care how resolutely childfree you are: you don't have to have children or even like them to appreciate that even you were once a child, and that children generally speaking take a lot of work to care for and rear.

So far I am having a nice mother's day. Church this morning, then we came home and I laid down for a bit while [livejournal.com profile] selenite made a fantastic brunch. Oh yum yum yum. And we'd come home last night to a mystery package that I opened today - my mother-in-law sent me the Rigetti book on sweater design and the Big Girls Knit book that I have been desperately coveting! OoooOooOh. I haven't gotten to read through it yet but oh oh my there's definitely some projects I'll be doing.

I will post more about the weekend, the house concert, gaming, Jamie's potty training, etc, as I catch up on energy.

Sigh, I have just been a space cadet.

[livejournal.com profile] selenite went to move the van so he could mow, bless him. He noticed that there was radiator fluid leaking. This explains the recent low coolant problem. And it was low on oil, rather distressing. Having been told this, I suggested he take it in to the shop, and then I'd get up, get Jamie up, and bring the kids in the other car to pick him up when he was ready.

In my defense, I had just been woken from a lovely nap by Brendan's Mother's Day phone call, and presumably wasn't thinking at my best. It wasn't until he called me that I remembered that my keys are in a bag of weekend stuff that was still ... in the van.

He's retrieved that for me, and I've called a cab for him.

A busy and fun weekend indeed. Friday evening we went to the Carla Ulbrich house concert over at [livejournal.com profile] sandy_tyras's place. That was lots of fun. The kids were fairly well behaved. Carla was amused to watch Jamie sorta dancing to the music in his high chair. We brought [livejournal.com profile] fordprfct along, as I am diabolically introducing him to filk, bwahaha.
We got another of Carla's albums, and one of the "Waffle Ho" buttons.

Saturday we got together at [livejournal.com profile] kattelyn and [livejournal.com profile] fordprfct's house for gaming. Tom and Sarah were there with their kids - one is between Maggie and Jamie in age, one is about to turn one. All the kids have fun together. There's discussion of us doing a joint birthday party for little Samantha and Maggie. Jamie was continuing in his quest to take his diaper off a lot - but was willing to go potty each time, I think we kept putting the same dry diaper back on him all day.

I was having some nasty and unusual headaches, which was not fun, but was trying to have a good time anyway. We played a game most of the others have played before, but I hadn't, Railway Tycoon. It was very long. I fought for 2nd place but didn't get it.

After Tom and Sarah and the kids left, the rest of us watched some of the newest Dr. Who stuff - the Christmas special and the first episode, New Earth. Well, that was interesting. Two of the best quotes Read more... )

We stayed up too late. That happens a lot over there. This morning we made it to church, I got to wear the new dress that *finally* showed up last week. [livejournal.com profile] selenite likes it. We came home and he made a lovely brunch for me, delicious, and after various phone calls I got to take a nap. I was woken from that by a phone call from Brendan, that was nice.

After the kerfluffle with the van and the keys, once [livejournal.com profile] selenite was home and mowing, I took the Dwynwyn-car down to the Farmer's Market, got some strawberries for a recipe, and picked up ribs and sweet corn for dinner.

We've continued Jamie's potty training today - he's spent most of the day wearing his first training pants underwear. (which are a bit too big). Many successes, no disasters yet. Now we need to convince him that he needs to put a diaper on for bedtime and leave it on.

This is so so cute

I want one. Although I don't have a baby the appropriate age. Heck, I want someone to do one up for Maggie, with appropriate info.

Anyway, it's an adorable idea.
