Weather, and how
Apr. 13th, 2007 06:35 pmAs
telophase already reported, we're having some Severe Weather here today.
We had the take cover sirens go off and were in the laundry room for a while. Fortunately I'd heeded the earlier watch and had cushions and other stuff stashed in there. I managed to get Karina-cat in with me and the kids - the cats came sniffing at the door when the hail hit - but Rorik ran upstairs.
I wasn't sure if we had a tornado, but oh man I could definitely hear the hail whacking the house. I called Karl - he was on the way home, almost to Saginaw. He got to drive through hail. I was REALLY glad when he came in through the garage to join us.
I was revving up the little handcranked radio in the laundry room - having problems with it, they were talking about SOMETHING just north of downtown Fort Worth, near the stockyards, then I lost it. Later when I got it back up they were talking about Saginaw getting softball sized hail. Karl brought in one that was oh, maybe a bit bigger than golfball size.
That storm cell is past for now. Karl and I brought the kids back out, restarted the video, checked in Dwynwyn. The front windshield is cracked at the top, and there are dimple-dents in the roof and back hood. I think the dents can be pretty much ignored, but I expect the windshield will need replacing. Well, we'll see what happens over the rest of the evening.
I checked Weather Underground when we came back out - yes, there's a tornado spotted at 6:20 over in Hurst, near Bedford and Euless. I told
fordprfct that on IM, since he lives in Euless. I was working on convincing him to NOT drive home from work at 7 - and then he had to sign off due to a tornado report in downtown Dallas, they were being sent to the stairwells.
Hopefully we're past the worst of it here, but we'll be keeping an eye on things tonight.
(Oh, and for the people that were saying "this weather just isn't right"? Come on, even non-native me knows that springtime thunderstorms with hail and tornados are part of life in Texas.)
