Elizabeth Moon wrote a short story about this, I'm not sure how many years ago, it's in a collection of hers. That one was set in the Mississippi river valley. I read it and enjoyed it. (We have the collection - but it's downstairs, and I'm still on a no-stairs promise to selenite

I think this is tremendously sensible. As I was saying earlier to faxpaladin, this is one of the fun things about being a science fiction fan, when you see the stories start becoming reality.

A Dutch co-worker remarked to me last month that we should be looking to the Netherlands to learn how to build levies. Reclaiming land from the sea is, after all, what they do.
