Well, this has been a tiring day.

The kids this morning were being a bit difficult with each other, and I was getting cranky with them. They clearly needed more exercise. And it's too cold to toss 'em into the backyard. So we went out.

Headed out. Had planned to stop at chickfila first, but Jamie fell asleep, so I let him catch about a 30 minute nap while driving down for the quick library stop. Books, and a series of David Attenborough Mammals videos for the kids. Then chickfila, lunch and playing in their kids' area, which is a good one. I let them play as long as Maggie was willing to, and encouraged her to run and climb. Jamie climbed up and then stayed up the whole time, I had to go climb up and get him down, ow.

Then after that a stop at Borders Books, found various Xmas prezzies. After that I was going to get back on the 30. However, I could see that the 30 west was very slow - spectator slowdown from the amazing procession that was on the 30 east. A huge line of police and sheriff cars, all in the center lane, slowly moving, all lights flashing. My own mental lightbulb went off - on the way to the library I'd passed the Baptist megachurch at the 820 and the 30, and had seen incredible numbers of cars parked all around it, full parking lot and blocks around bumper to bumper, with many many police and sheriff cars. I'd thought it must be rented out to some kind of sheriff's convention, but I realized it must have been a funeral, and this was the procession to the cemetary. It was amazing, in all the time it took to get over the fwy and down the side service road to where I could cut over and take Camp Bowie, I couldn't see an end to it in either direction. In various spots on overpasses and the service roads, cops and firetrucks were pulled over, lights going, and their occupants standing and watching the procession.

After that we went up to Lake Worth and went to the Hobby Lobby. I apparently look craft-knowledgeable and approachable - while looking for the knitting counter, I was asked for help by a lady looking to get back into crochet, and what was this blunt-point needle thing it wanted her to get? So I got to look at her pattern, explain about tapestry needles and using them to weave in ends, and in this case to sew blocks together, helped her find them, and recommended what size to get for the yarn she was picking. I got some more tapestry needles myself, a bit smaller (the things vanish, you know. I think gremlins collect them.), and got one of the employees to help me find the one and only clicky counter. It's not as nice as the $20-odd digital one on a lanyard that someone linked to on one of my posts, but it was a lot cheaper - $7.50 and 50% off - so I think I will find something creative with a rubber band and a cord and lanyard it myself. I considered some yarn for a possible project, finally rejected it. Found some nice crafty things Maggie and I can do together for her Sunday school teachers, for the other kids in her class, and for some of the other people we know there, a couple of coloring/activity books I'll save for the kids, and some nice wrapping paper. Oh, and a couple cute holiday bandannas.

Then, well, we need catfood and the Petsmart was just next door. And of course ANY trip to a pet store with Maggie *requires* that we see the birds, mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, and oh especially the fish. Whew. Then finally one great big bag o'catfood, check.

Home, out of spoons. Fortunately Karl was home fairly soon to help with kid dinners. He's bathing Jamie now, they'll be getting an early bedtime tonight.
