Texas fires

So I pop onto rlseiver's computer while he's out for the evening, and this is the top article on his homepage.

Grass fires all over Texas, especially in my area.

Dozens of grass fires burned across an unusually warm and windy Texas on Tuesday, destroying homes, forcing evacuations, and prompting Gov. Rick Perry to deploy state firefighters and issue a disaster declaration.

Boyd, Denton, Colleyville, Arlington, Kennedale, and Joshua form a big almost-circle around where we live. I hope everything's still there in our town when we get back.

Last week there was a grass fire one exit down from mine, and there was a fire south of I-30 at I-35 when I left for Mom's house on Saturday. And tonight I drove down Pioneer Parkway to go to Taco Cabana and passed an area (luckily for me, quite a number of blocks south) that smelled very burned, but as it was dark I couldn't see where.

I am a wee bit nervous, since there's pretty much nothing but dry grass and trees to the west of me once you pass Lowe's, Wal-Mart, and Sams. I'm hoping they'll serve as a sort of mercantile firebreak if there's another grass fire.

I keep checking the news. It keeps looking bad. The national stuff is just "lots of fires in Texas". The specific Texas info I've been able to find doesn't mention Saginaw yet. Just a lot of places in a big arc around Saginaw.

The smoke has got to be awful.

I have a friend from work that lives within a couple of miles of you guys. I have an e-mail out to him about local conditions. I'll relay when he get's back to me.

Just talked to my friend in NW Ft Worth. He said he saw a few small burned areas while he was out riding his motorcycle today, but nothing major. So far so good.
