celticdragonfly: (Don't wanna)

My pretty glass, all shattered, sigh

I broke one of my wineglasses! Aaaagggghhhhh!!

I've had half this set of wineglasses and water goblets for over 18 years. They've made it through 12 moves. I'd never broken one before today. I was trying to put away dishes, and had a bowl slip and fall and smash one that was sitting on the counter waiting to be handwashed. (Because I hate doing that and I procrastinate.)

I suppose it may be silly, but I feel awful.

Now I feel nervous about using any of my pretty glass stuff.

Eighteen YEARS...

I'm sorry to hear that. Now you know a little bit how a certain unspecified tourist must feel.

Duncan Robinson, director of the museum, said: "It was a most unfortunate and regrettable accident but we are glad that the visitor involved was able to leave the Museum unharmed.

What a marvelous example, though, of the difference between US and UK culture. Can you imagine if that had happened at an American museum? There'd be lawsuits for years.

Dang. Eighteen years?

My mom buys glassware in lots at auctions because they go through it so fast.

I broke the same "hippity hop" glass from World Market 3 times (ok, not the same exact glass, but I kept replacing it) until they stopped carrying it. This weekend I found a version of it in acrylic which claims to be shatter proof.

We'll see about that!

Me, too

Casper, "The Paw" was pissed that we left him with Robyn house sitting this weekend. When we went to church Sunday morning, after coming home Saturday, that was the straw! He got up on the granite countertop, and, for the first time, opened the crystal cabinet. He pulled out a wine glass that had been a wedding shower present from my parents - from 1966! Then I broke a matching champaigne glass trying to save the situation when I came home. Sigh.

At least it wasn't the stuff from 1920!

And I am pissed at Casper for misbehaving, even if he was acting out. I am a perfectly good cat sitter. I probably paid more attention to him than to either of the other two cats, because he followed me around and seemed to need it more.

What do we do with your breakables when you go to Disney?

Can you get a cat-proof lock?
