I did it. Me.

We have been in the process of an ongoing project to get more rooms usable in our house. The plan that we came up with over Christmas is that the lilac room at the top of the stairs over the porch, which we used to laughingly call "the guest room" while in actuality it was filled with junk [1], would become Maggie's room. We have decided it is time to give the kids separate rooms - mostly in hope that they'll stop keeping each other up until 1 am. The loft bed that Brendan had been using would get moved to Maggie's room, along with some of the toys, the doll cradle that used to be mine, etc.

Then we're going to clean out Brendan's room, and possibly repaint it. It's an awfully bright green color. Possibly a darker green. It's going to become the guest room. That way Brendan will still be sleeping in the same room when he's back here. But we can use it for other guests the rest of the time. That closet is being used for storage. The desk that's in there we might leave in there, or might move to our room for Karl, we'll have to see. The queen size bed that's currently on the floor of the nursery used by both kids will get moved to that room, and we'll get some sort of frame for it. At that point we'll need to buy a new bed for Jamie for the nursery. Possibly we'll leave the crib in there, possibly we'll take it apart and put it in the attic or something.

Anyway. I got tired of this whole project stagnating. Karl helped me over the weekend to do a lot of the cleaning out of the lilac room. I decided I'd had enough waiting, and have been working on the rest of it. Despite various setbacks, I've done it. I got the loft bed disassembled and moved into the lilac room and reassembled ALL BY MYSELF. All the handyman stuff. I even fixed a problem where the movers used the wrong bolts in the wrong places when they set it up before, apparently, and it wasn't quite right. Found it, figured it out, fixed it. [2]

The loft bed is now reassembled in Maggie's new room. Still needs the top sheet and comforter, and the ladder hooked back on after that. But I'm taking a break. The little blue bookcase is in there, too, that her great-grandfather made. I want to set her up a nice little reading nook by the window. Some sort of chair. The little red rocking chair will do nicely. She can sleep in there tonight.

Maybe I can move some toys in later. We'll want to put up some decorations. Hm, the clock from the nursery was sorta intended as her clock - maybe I should move it and design a new one for Jamie. Maybe a cute namethingy for her door. Hm. We could have fun here.

Edit: Bed made, ladder set up, some toys moved in.

[1] To be fair, it occasionally did get used as a guest room with the old Ikea foldout couch thing.

[2] Note: I want a hex bit set for the drill, so I can use it as an electric hex wrench as well as an electric screwdriver.

Good going for you! I love completing projects like that, feels good.

Good for you!

Ooh, decorating a little girl's room, what fun!!

[identity profile] celticdragonfly.livejournal.com 2006-02-02 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it an amazingly tempting idea?

[identity profile] joyeuse13.livejournal.com 2006-02-02 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Quit that, I'm ticking loudly enough as it is!

[identity profile] celticdragonfly.livejournal.com 2006-02-02 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, but it's all so CUTE! Little wall hangings for her. Suncatchers or stickers for the window. Cute personalized stuff with roses. Maybe fabric swags hanging from the loft bed so she can play house under there. Oh, all the possibilities. I want to go shopping.

Wow. You really must be feeling better!

Is she excited about her new room, or is she resistant to change?

[identity profile] celticdragonfly.livejournal.com 2006-02-03 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
She was excited about it. She was playing in there last night. I was out last night, so [livejournal.com profile] selenite put her to bed. He says she liked it, but did call him back for a hug and kiss. Jamie was apparently annoyed at sleeping alone.

This morning she was SUCH a big girl. Jamie was crying, and I was peeling myself out of bed. Maggie came running in. "Jamie's awake!" she said. I said okay, and told her it was time to go potty. "Oh, I did!" she said offhandedly. We opened the door, and she said to Jamie, "Would you like to come play in my room?"

Does this make it official: Your - ah - backside ( yeah, that's it ) is no longer in a sling ?? ;-)

Edit: extra apostrophe removed.

[identity profile] celticdragonfly.livejournal.com 2006-02-03 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah. It was never in a sling. I'm doing well these days. If I sit too long, I will start to hurt, and being in a typical car with the back leaning seats is a bit much. But for most day to day life, yes, I'm doing well.

"Hah. It was never in a sling."

Yeah yeah, but it's too good a line to pass up. Had to get in one last shot. :-)

"But for most day to day life, yes, I'm doing well."

Glad to hear it. I thought you were back to chasing the smaller members of your bunch around at more or less full speed at the filk.

Oh, well done!

Well done! You made a lovely dream-catcher for phoenix singer - how about one for Maggie Rose? Oh, and something with roses for our Rose.

Re: Oh, well done!

[identity profile] celticdragonfly.livejournal.com 2006-02-03 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, I no longer have access to the places where I'd get the supplies to make dreamcatchers. I'll have to think on that. And yes, I'd like to get pretty rose stuff.

Feeling a little bad, because I'm realizing the clock hanging in the nursery is really for Maggie, as is the painting - and hey, why is there not stuff for Jamie? Maybe we need to find ways to find special stuff for him. It tends to be harder.

Cheers!

***is inspired to get cracking on her own projects***

Would you like a narnia print for Jamie? I can clip the carol lyrics, if you like. I have three nice ones: Narnian dwarves delving in the Christmas mines (God rest ye merry), a narnian christmas party (Wassail) and the (grown up/teenage) Pevensies singing carols (Holly & the Ivy)?

[identity profile] celticdragonfly.livejournal.com 2006-02-05 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Narnia prints? I am trying to mentally picture these. Sounds interesting. I have no objection to carols. Is this a particular artist, something from a book edition?

[identity profile] carbonelle.livejournal.com 2006-02-05 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
No, I drew them :-)
