It has been... a day.
Jamie came down sick last night. It put a rather abrupt ending on an evening with friends. (And we'd just gotten all the groceries for subs and munchies and all that - I had been about to go back for seconds...) We briefly hoped it would just be a brief problem, he just ate too much of something that disagreed with him. Apparently not. He was repeatedly sick last night, got two baths, repeated clothes changes, and sheets changed. After Karl got some laundry through and stuff in from the van, he ended up taking over the late shift with Jamie so I could go get some sleep, as I was very short on sleep. He was up late with a sick boy, and then even did more laundry and some dishes.
This morning Jamie had a diaper that necessitated another early bath. After that he was tucked into bed with Karl, Maggie and I got bathed and dressed, and I took her to the later service at church while the guys slept. Just as well we made it to the later service - since Sunday school is stopped for the summer, they're doing children's church stuff, but only at the later 2 services. Maggie was good at church. I called on the way home to check did Karl want me to get the carpet steam cleaner we'd talked about for Jamie's room, and lunch for him, but he was asleep, so Maggie and I just picked up lunch for us and more baby shampoo.
We've mostly had a quiet afternoon with Jamie. He ate some cheerios and had a nap. Then - he threw up again. On Karl again, poor dear - he's had to change shirts three times due to this.
The thing is - depending on how you look at it, this is our wedding anniversary. (We figure it's the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, or May 30th, whatever's more convenient.) Not much of an anniversary. Certainly I'm reminded to be grateful for having Karl, and what a good partner and parent he is. I did say to him earlier that it's just as well we didn't manage to have anything fancy planned for the anniversary, as this would have trashed it.
So then we decided to have me go out and get some videos, the steam carpet cleaner, and more stuff for subs, since we hadn't gotten to enjoy them enough last night. I went out. Blockbuster had nothing of the sort of thing I was in a mood for, but after some phone discussion I picked out several things from the recent shelves, and we'll make do. (Having a friend with a HUGE screen spoils us - I end up thinking we should wait and see things with them, but nah, there's never enough time for that) I then went to Albertsons to get the steam cleaner. Whenever I do that I'm reminded of why I don't go there any more, and why I stick with the Walmart - and that's not how I would have expected things to be. Suffice it to say that there was too much waiting, way too little competence, and I finally told them forget it and walked out. Thought about going to Walmart for the groceries, but it was getting too late and I was frazzled.
