library problem

Okay, I'm disturbed. There's a bunch of stuff on my library account that I did not check out. When I called Southwest Regional, they report they were checked out at Summerglen - I've never even BEEN there. They're closed today, I need to call tomorrow.

Something like this happened a few weeks ago, but it was stuff checked out at Southwest Regional the same day as I'd checked out stuff, and I figured they just forgot to scan the next card. I called and they fixed it. I hope this one gets cleared up. Very disturbing.

Surely there is someone in the library system you can call to talk to, even if that particular branch is closed today?

Do your library cards go by numbers or by your name? If by some number, then ask them to cancel all cards in your name and issue you a new one. If by name, then maybe just cancel all cards in your name and put a tag on your account stating that some strong id (passport?) is required to issue a new one?

Worst case scenario - identity theft. I sincerely hope that is not the case, but might be worth checking bank records, credit card records and such too.

I talked to Southwest, they said I needed to talk to Summerglen. She did suggest getting a new card. That will be complex - I don't actually live in Fort Worth, I have a TexShare card that the Saginaw library issued me, and I use that to get a limited-access Fort Worth card. They do go by number.

I suspect it's just clerical error. Possibly Summerglen doesn't have barcode readers and enters the numbers by hand? There seemed to be the implication that it was a small branch with limited hours.

Ah. I hope it is that simple.

Or they had a barcode reader and it broke, so they'd be out of practice and more likely to make typos.
