Book girl

Last night we'd tucked the kids into bed as usual - then when I came upstairs later to go to bed myself, I went to check on them as I often do.

I wasn't surprised to find Rorik on Maggie's bed - he often sleeps there, and will raise his head and give me a LOOK if I come in, usually with a few catly words that I think translate as "she's sleeping, don't disturb her". And he'd curled up on her pillow when I put her to bed.

But that wasn't why I was so charmed and had to take the picture! I'm so proud - that's our girl. Fell asleep 'reading' her book. Karl says "when she can read, she'll be ready for it."

Giving me books to occupy myself in my crib is how my mom started me out early as a bibliophile.

And you've got a Siamese! He's a big puffy guy, isn't he?

I have two. Actually they're probably Siamese/Burman blends or something. His sister Karina is very fluffy and has white slippers over her black feet. She's maybe 9 lbs? Rorik has a lovely coat like a seal, and weighs 16 1/2 lbs when he was last weighed. (years ago) The vet made a notation "Cat is NOT obese" - nope, that's all muscle.

Ironically, although it's Rorik who curls up to guard Maggie in her sleep more nights than not, in her opinion Karina is "her cat" and Rorik is my cat. I just shrug and do not dispute the strongly-held opinion of the four-year-old. She says although Karina is her cat and Rorik is mine, Karina is my friend and Rorik is hers.

Maggie asleep with the book is adorable. I remember "My First Dictionary". Rorik with the glowing eyes is scary. She has quite a guardian there.
