Bandwidth rant
Oct. 31st, 2003 03:55 pmStuck on dial up and teed off
So when I had to sign up for the telephone service here in Saginaw, I apparently had tons of choices. I'm not used to that, in California where you live dictated what you got. So I asked Lana, the previous owner about it. She said "Oh, we had SBC, because we had our DSL through them." Okay, good enough. So I signed up with DSL, with the guy happily telling me all about their great DSL and great prices and recommending which modem I should get.
Then he handed me over to the DSL guy. Who told me that the house was too far away from whatever station they measure from to have DSL. I told him nonsense, the previous owners had SBC DSL at that house, and in fact the DSL phone filters were still in place. He was supposed to shove this question upstairs and have someone call me back. Never happened. I've been around and around with their customer service several times now, and haven't gotten ANYWHERE, they keep saying it's too far. Idiots. This house did not get up and walk farther away from wherever they measure from between last May and now! (Why, YES, I am thinking of changing my phone company, just because I'm so pissed at that first guy for LYING to me.)
Agh. So I'm pissed, and I'm stuck with stupid dial up service, which makes me twitch. I want my DSL back. Earthlink suggests satellite service, at a price I cannot seriously contemplate asking my husband to pay for my connectivity. Agh.
Pissed pissed, and having serious withdrawal from not reading my online comics, not being on the Lois Bujold email list, etc.
