Okay, I just want to say that I think that there's no reason at all a newborn boy shouldn't be able to wear this baby sweater, knit in a deep golden yellow.
As it happens, my Mom bought the pattern and yarn some time ago - from the bag logo, I'd say it was on an Eastern Star trip into Alabama. She'd started it, but then abandoned it 2 or 3 inches up from the bottom - from what she said apparently after she found out my sister's baby was going to be a boy.
She then gave the project to me last time I was home. I originally figured I'd make it up and have it as a future baby shower gift for somebody - but then once I got pregnant again, I decided I'd finish it for this baby. Boy or girl.
Just - now that I'm working on it, I got a little nervous, because I'm terribly afraid this will be a boy, too. We'll see.
Around here all you'd have to do to that color to make it "masculine" (even for an adult male, not just a baby) would be add some black so it would fit the black-and-gold color scheme of all three local (i.e. Pittsburgh) major-league sports teams, or navy blue for some of the high-school or college teams.
It's also very similar to a "mango" color of chenille yarn I used to knit a scarf for my sister in Kansas. Her college out there, Emporia State (from which she just graduated [brag]), also has black and gold for colors, since Kansas's state flower is the sunflower.

So, yeah, I think it's a very nice unisex color.
