If people haven't seen it, we're working on rescuing that stray cat.

Karl was talking to a nice coworker of his, asking about possible catsitting for IF we get to go to Baton Rouge for the holidays, if Thumper is obliging enough to show up in time. She's going away, too, but could recommend a professional catsitter. Apparently Karl got to talking to her about the stray, and she's only got one cat right now, and might be willing to adopt this one. So since I hadn't heard back from Animal Control anyway (to find out where the shelter is), I went ahead and brought the carrier up from the car, and put the cat in the guest room, which was set up for cats anyway as the room ours had been shut into while Dad was first here with his allergies.

Aside from the inevitable mess in the carrier, poor cat had been in it overnight (it's out on the porch, ew, stinky), the cat is extremely well behaved. Reacted calmly to coming inside and upstairs, and calmly to the new room. Got a good look, cat is male. Couldn't tell if neutered or whole - but I suspect neutered, as I can hardly imagine a tom being THAT calm and quiet in such a situation. The coworker may be coming over tonight to meet him. I may try to go take a picture with the digital camera later to send to her, after I give the poor fellow some time to wash - maybe if Maggie takes a nap.

I hope Julie takes him. She has a female, so a male would probably be better - from my experience it's most often females that get territorial issues. And he CANNOT stay here, we are full up with our own.

Good luck with the kitty!

(Neutered vs. whole is pretty obvious once they get old enough to be, well, developed. Or well developed... Neutered, all you see is the pointy bit, really. Toms... jiggle. Though if you have a fuzzy one, hard to tell in the fur.)

Well, I didn't see a pointy bit. I just saw the two round bits in back. On my cats, they didn't remove them when they neutered them, just... removed the contents, as it were. So I'm trying to judge whether those are LARGE enough to still have the contents in them. And I'm not sure.

They look kinda larger than the ones on my male cats - but I really have a hard time imagining an intact tom who is THAT calm, polite, and well-behaved in a strange situation.

Here's a picture of the cat, btw. Doesn't show the relevant bits in question, though.

Ivan Vorcatril wasn't neutered when we got him from the pound, and neither was his cage-mate, and they didn't know each other when they were put in together. And they were a calm, friendly, laid-back pair of toms.

So it's possible!

Hm, that could be bad. I'm already worried about talking her into adopting him, I'd hate to have to say "oh, and get him neutered, too".

Marvelous disposition, though.

Well, the local humane society might know which vets are reasonably cheap... (If he doesn't spray, and the female is spayed, all may be well...)

If he'll allow you to palpate (sounds better than "fondle," eh?), you can probably tell if the dicebag has any d20s.

Heh, that's a little more intimate than I wanted to get with a strange cat at 9 1/2 months pregnant. I'm not even allowed to change litterboxes. I wonder if Karl would be willing...

Lovely turn of phrase, though.

*giggle* There is that. (Mmm, I remember not changing litterboxes....)

And thanks!
