Socks in progress

The two socks currently on my needles:

Maggie's 2nd rainbow sock, with the Cloverleaf Rib pattern, which is the one the knitalong will be doing next:


And Karl's cabled socks:


This is SO frustrating. Can you even TELL that I'm cabling these socks? Talk about subtle. Well, they ARE cabled, and quite well, so even if nobody else can see, I know it and he knows it.


Still, I want to start working more in solid colors, and less in the variegated yarn. I say this despite the fact that I found an online site with a GREAT sale price on this Italian variegated sock yarn, and there's a browns/tans/white I'm SO tempted by. Sigh. I can't get solids that cheap, darn it!

Yep, I too have realized why the knitting books say "don't bother using varigated yarn for fancy stitch patterns". It's less of a strong effect on the sweater I'm making, because the yarn's more speckled, but it's still a little on the busy side.

I've had somewhat better luck with the tweeded yarns, though; I did some patterned socks in Wildfoote tweeds that turned out well.

Sometime if y'all ever take a trip south, you have to go to the Yarn Barn in San Antonio. But don't do it on a day when finances are really tight.
