So we've clearly had a storm moving in for some time, dark clouds, rising wind, ongoing rumbling of thunder. It started raining a little while ago. It's been making me nervous, I've postponed going out for pizza until after [livejournal.com profile] selenite came home so I can leave the kids with him. And I've been twitchy. It kept feeling like a severe thunderstorm coming.

But I kept saying to myself "weatherbug isn't chittering, no alerts, it can't be serious".

Weatherbug just chittered. Severe thunderstorm, moving east at 30 mph, large hail, big wind gusts, flooding. Hitting White Settlement - well, already hit there by now. As I'd recently talked to [livejournal.com profile] selenite on the phone, I know he's on the way home already, and is probably getting caught right in the worst of it.

Stupid weatherbug. A bit more notice would have been a lot more helpful. Reminds me that I'm right to listen to my instincts. I'm reminded of that scene in Crystal Singer with Killashandra snarling at her weather alert.

We have no windows in my building so the first hint I got of the storm was the people ahead of me reaching the outside door and then turning back to go to their offices. I got soaked but the drive wasn't too bad. People were being sensible about the weather.

I was actually cheerful to see the heavy rain as I walked out. Another reminder I'm not in @#$% California any more, and boy I'm glad.

Still getting used to the differences in the weather, though. Storms in Los Angeles would rain on us for days. Here the thunderstorm sweeps through and half an hour later it's barely drizzling, so it can be worth your while to go back to your desk for a bit and miss the worst of it.
