This has been just a lovely weekend.

Scarborough Faire yesterday was fun. I did find myself comparing it to the renfaire out in California. Nicer trees, more breezes. Permanent structures cool, bathroom facilities way better. Food was not as good. (At least the food I had. [livejournal.com profile] selenite has a theory that quality of food varied by which set of food booths you were at, that there was a good-food-gradient, and we just hadn't realized it early enough.) Rides and activities there were more of. Permanent stage setups were nice, more impressive than stages at the California one. I remember seeing more wandering and here-and-there entertainers in CA. I remember shoppies being a bit better in CA, but then last time I'd been to the renfaire out there I'd been much less encumbered with children. So maybe I just didn't get to see as much of it.

It was lovely having [livejournal.com profile] tygerr visiting, and he must do it more often. (You hear that, Tygwr-bach?) And bring his boys. Both Son#1 and Son#2 were very nice, they were both helpful especially during the faire, and for teenagers remarkably patient with the slowdowns associated with two tired out parents taking care of the two kids with them. Son#2 is quite talented on the piano, and I was shocked to find out he'd never had piano lessons, had just learned himself. He was noodling around with the Entertainer rag, and not just playing bits of it but it sounded like doing variations. Whoa. Son#1 was wonderful playing with Maggie and Jamie, he was very good with them, and I think Maggie will be quite disappointed when she wakes up from her nap and realizes he's not coming back today. And of course it would be hard for us to get enough chatting with [livejournal.com profile] tygerr. We also got to have a lovely long hand-from-person-to-person chat with [livejournal.com profile] meerkat1 on the phone.

Nice group breakfast this morning, I even got to watch [livejournal.com profile] tygerr teaching Son#1 how to make an omelet. Since I am SO not a cook, I figured it behooved me to pay attention. I made scones and muffins, [livejournal.com profile] selenite made bacon and eggs. Heh. And ended up inadvertently flinging a plate of hot eggs at me. Poor boy, he's so embarrassed, but it truly wasn't anything he intended to do, and nobody but the eggs was hurt. I was a bit startled, because just a little while earlier I'd been trying to get tea java bottles out of the cardboard 4-pack, and had dropped one off the table - glass bottles, onto that tile floor that has shattered a number of our plates - and was terrified that it was about to spray glass shards all over my bare feet. And then with the eggs I was terrified again. But both times it didn't break. I am just so lucky sometimes. But then given that I'm having my fifth anniversary with [livejournal.com profile] selenite, that goes without saying!

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] tygerr and the boys had to head back home, but I hope they'll come again. The rest of us are having a quiet day - [livejournal.com profile] selenite and the babies are napping right now, and Brendan was going to come down for a bite to eat, but he may have fallen asleep himself. And nobody has to get up early tomorrow. All is good.

August would be good. I like that idea.

I could also point out that there's going to be a con up here in late September. I'm sure the Millers will be at that, we may well be, dunno who else.
