I had the oddest dream this morning.

Brendan had been playing the piano and singing, and then there was some man who had come over at my request who was apparently going to be putting on a local production of The Music Man, and I was trying to convince him how musical Brendan is, and that he sings on pitch, and so wouldn't they take a chance on him despite the autism and cast him as the young boy, the librarian's brother? (can't remember the character name just now, although I did in the dream) But Brendan had stripped off all his clothes and was running around the living room in the nude, which was not helping my pitch at all.

Then I was chatting with someone else in the living room, who told me that Marlee Matlin (I wonder if I'd spelled that right) had died, and I was saying that was a terrible shame, and I could hardly believe it, because just a week or so ago she'd visited us, along with some assistant named Gordon, and they had a guide dog (yes, I know - guide dogs are trained for the blind, not deaf, it's a dream), and they were having a lovely discussion with us and discussing some child who'd managed to completely overcome her disability, and I'd found this very encouraging for Brendan's future.

Then I was, I think, going to a memorial service for her, and it was in this very large sanctuary, which sloped downward from the back to a wooden floored area with pews and altar in front, but the back part was open to the sky and was like a grassy sloped lawn. And there were flowers in the back, and kids playing among the flowers, and they were something like flowering dandelions, except instead of having the puffball come up when it was ready to send its seeds a long way off, it had this section that grew as a big balloon, filled with a ligher than air gas. And I guess it must have been hydrogen, because when it was growing and not yet ready to have the stem atrophy so it could float off very high in the sky on their own, they had lots of water in them. And the kids were playing with them, the way a kid will pluck a dandelion puffball before it's quite ready to go on it's own, and will blow on it, and they were plucking these flowers and pushing them off to float, only since they weren't ready on their own and still had water in them, they didn't go off to the sky, but went up to about head level and were slowly floating down the slope of the sanctuary towards the bottom, and bopping into people and bursting and sending out all this water and people were slipping in it. And the very biggest balloon was going after this very large lady, who was trying to escape from it, and trying to push me into its path, but I wrenched away and ducked away from it, and it hit the large lady and burst, and with a huge splash of water, she slipped and slid all the way down the sanctuary aisle and was ending up plopped on her rear by the altar. And she was very angry at me for this.

So I got out of there, and then I ended up in this place that was a combination of Oriental goods and grocery store, and community space for people, and there was a large group of people who were doing something that was somewhere between an odd wedding ceremony and a betrothal ceremony - they were deciding on the details of what was some combination of bridal price and dowry and what the couple were registering for from the community. There was a large structure in the middle of the room, and baskets and bins of items and coins around it, some useful, some symbolic things, like carved jade slippers that stood for different values in different sizes. And there were rows of seats near it, and I sat in one of the ones near the front. The lady presiding over things had a small child, a girl maybe 3, I think? And she asked me to hold the little girl for her, and she was a sweet little girl quite willing to cuddle in my lap, so I did. And I was helping suggest what should go in, and putting in some of the carved jade slippers and some of the coins, and then someone pointed out to me that it was bad luck to have more than a certain number of coins in it, which is why there were other valuables like the carved jade. Shortly after that I was wandering off through the store part, and doing some shopping - I wanted to find some kind of traditional chopping bowl and chopping knife, and some of the munchies that were traditionally chopped in such a bowl, and try them as snacks.

Weird. It'd be nice if I had some fascinating insight to tie the whole thing together, but I don't.
