Brendan ate fruit!

Brendan just ate applesauce.

He hasn't been willing to touch that for many, many years. He was wanting a second snickerdoodle cookie, I told him he had to have something of a regular meal first. I'd offered several of his usual foods that he'd turned down, and added applesauce for what-the-heck, sometimes I offer other foods just so I know I'm still trying. He asked if it was on his diet and ate it. A single-serving package of the good organic stuff. Whoa.

He's also showing wonderful manners about the snickerdoodles. I told him this afternoon that I was making cookies for a little boy I love very much, and he was so excited about it. After I made them he came up and hugged me and said "I really appreciate how you make snickerdoodles for me." Awww.

I'm as amazed about the notion that he asked about it being on his diet as about eating it! That's an amazingly aware level of health-consciousness for a -normal- seven-year-old!

That he actually does fairly often. He's heard so much about the diet as we deal with it that I think it's just gotten internalized.

Today he asked me "Is wine on my diet?" I told him it was only for adults. He doesn't seem to actually know what it is, I don't know where that one came from.

Hmmm--I wonder if he's been getting into the Doonesbury books, folks would have wine in them. I need to do a serious sort on the library comics. The Sandman and Xxxenophiles are out of his reach, but I need to take a pass through the rest.
