[livejournal.com profile] selenite darling wanted to be nice to me, so we went out to the local yarn store. No, they did not have the luscious yarn I'd been looking at online earlier, but the proprietor had told me last month she was getting new sock yarn in. None of the Lorna's Laces I covet, but they did have some new wool fingering weight sock yarn in solid colors.

I got some in a lovely brown color. I'd been saying I should get some more pretty brown things.

Then I realized what I MUST do with this yarn.

Here's a picture of the maple leaf pattern I'm going to get for this yarn

Yes, it will be the VorkosiSock Project!

Good gods, I actually have something I could crosspost to the Fandom Knitting list.

Oh, I will. Definitely. But then I'm terribly vain about my fiber arts, I'm posting pictures of all the socks.

I'm wondering, if they come out really well, if I can get somebody to sneakily find out Lois's shoe size.

Oooooh! That would be so cool!! I think she'd have to like that! :-)

There must be some way for someone to finagle it out of her!

Any cons coming up that she'll be attending? I knew Balticon, but that's over.

Maybe a list discussion about shoe sizes? Oh wait, that's already been done to death and not inspired any comments from Lois!! :-P

I went and took a look at the page. Interesting. Pretty colors. It sounds more like the accurate description would be that they've plied short lengths of already spun short lengths of silk. I'm not sure how well that'd hold together, or what type of project it would be good for.

Today I had a monthly knitting get-together, and I asked the people there about it. (Which is why I hadn't replied before this.) None of them were familiar with it. I tried explaining it and wondering what it would be good for, but they digressed off on discussing soy silk yarn.

They're using sari thrums, so it's plied rather than an actual spun yarn.

Expensive, pretty-- but I'd guess that the thrums were never longer than a yard to begin with, so probably fairly fragile.
