So this was the weekend of Danielle and Brian's wedding, yay. So road trip to San Antonio for the household.

Since we'd gotten Catherine (our van) back on Thursday, we were actually able to be packed and loaded and out of the house 15 minutes ahead of the estimate. The first stop was dinner in Austin, where we were meeting up with various Bujold listies. Sharon Casteel brought her son Thomas, and a lovely gentleman named Martin, and Andrew ([livejournal.com profile] kd5mdk, or in the context of this post Big Andrew. Perhaps we should call him Andrew Mhor) came, and [livejournal.com profile] tygerr was there. It was a good chance to see Andrew, since he couldn't come to the wedding, and Thomas wasn't going to be there, either. We had a marvelous evening. Andrew got to see and hold and play with Jamie, aka Thumper the Tank Boy. Thomas was cute, and was eating heartily. Maggie decided to flirt some in general, but seriously wrap Scott ([livejournal.com profile] tygerr) around her little finger and order him around. She took him over to a side booth on her own, adjacent to the tables the rest of us were at, and sat down, ordering him to sit across from her, and then was seriously flirting with him there. Scott said it was like she was trying to take him out on a date. She also got to find out about brainfreeze for the first time while eating softserve ice cream. Oh, the look on her face!

Weird random bit of ObBujold conversation - was discussing with Scott the miseries of trying to grow hair out through that awful awkward mid-length stage, and hey, couldn't Betan technology do something about this? If they handled Dono, there ought to be something. Scott suggested that they could certainly clone you a scalp with long hair. I think I'd pass, though.

Eventually it was decided that really, those of us headed for San Antonio that evening should move along. Andrew has been told he is to come visit soon, when he gets back from this next trip, and he is to fail at his peril. It was good seeing him, and marvelous meeting Sharon, Thomas, and Martin.

I didn't get pictures of Friday night, because the newer digital camera doesn't have a lot of memory - I need to replace the basic card someday, some month with a lot less bills than this one. So I wanted to save pictures for the reception.

Saturday morning our household plus Scott went downtown to wander around the Riverwalk. Apparently the Air Force does basic training there - earnest looking shaved guys in uniform trailing visiting family everywhere. We had an early lunch at Hard Rock Café, and discussed how we were apparently their target demographic for at least that hour of the day, and discussed weirdities of the period of music videos they were playing. Jamie knocked Scott's coffee over, but no harm done. Maggie decided Scott's fries were more fun than hers. More walking afterwards, we went by the Alamo so we can say we've seen it. Haagen Daas has a "Bailey's shake". Eh. The one from Red Robin is, in my memory, better.

Went back to the hotel to shower off again and change for the wedding. Put Maggie into her pretty yellow dress and hat, and Jamie into his little white sailor suit outfit and hat. Got quite delayed, because Scott's car had been broken into. Agh, awful. So then we were running late. I hate that! Got there just as the bride was going up the aisle, both kids fell asleep in the car and were tucked into the stroller. I ended up tucked in the back on the nominal groom's side, because that's where we could slip the stroller in. Felt awkward and stupid. Sent Karl and Scott over to the back of the bride's side, right behind Louann, Russ, and little Andrew. Nice wedding. Sadly, did not get to see the famous rose window at the Mission or anything like that. Everybody was waiting around outside afterwards, and I was badly wilting in the heat. I braided Scott's hair for him. Matron of honor (I believe) was in red, the bridesmaids in black, two flower girls in white with red sashes. They had a sword arch with 4 other sergeants at the door of the church for when Danielle and Brian came out, very nice.

It was a bit early to head over to the reception, and Sharon was mentioning the local yarn store she'd said I had to see. Tried following her over there, but apparently they got lost, there was some back-and-forthing, and by the time we got there they were about to close, and it was about reception time, so we turned around and went to the reception at the Art Museum.

At the wedding they had disposable wedding cameras on each table, with little cards to write down who/what was in each shot. I played cameraperson for our table. (And despite my usual habit of doing this so as to stay behind the camera, I had Scott take a shot of me). I did a far better job getting lots of pics for Danielle and Brian than for myself, but I think that's the correct order of things. I hope she puts hers up online sometime - I want some of those!

Sharon and Martin playing cute bouncy games with baby Jamie. He LOVED it.

Russ, Andrew, and Louann Miller, all having chosen just that moment to turn away. Was it something I said?

Louann Miller and Scott Padget

Maggie and the flower girls were running all around and having a marvelous time. Karl and I took turns following her around. Here she is playing with several of the little ones on the dance floor. The cuteness was enough that Danielle was getting her camera. There's Brian in uniform on the left. Doesn't he look spiffy? The little baby girl in the pink dress is Jackie, I know that, and I believe the blonde behind her to the right is her big sister, Sophie, a flower girl. Maggie and Sophie were running and playing a lot. At one point they were considering trading Sophie's flower crown for Maggie's hat.

The bride's cake - it was heartshaped, and had sparkly sprinkles like her veil. And was very tasty.

And the groom's cake - humvee and headphones, yep.

The reception was in the lobby area of the art museum, and there were interesting statues here and there. Maggie was looking at the male statues, which um, have certain bits that have gone missing during their history, and was pointing. I think she may have been saying "owie" She and Sophie considered trying to climb up there and several of the adults instantly converged to convince them otherwise. There was a room of statuary we had to go through to get to the restrooms - I noticed later, after the staged photo shot of us all throwing rose petals over the bride and groom, that one of those statues had a rose petal on its head.

Yes, this is what it takes for Karl and I to get to dance together. You can't see, but I'm holding Jamie behind Maggie. Dance for four.

We got to give Danielle and Brian the bride and groom bears I made for them.

Cutting the cake with the army sword.

Yummy!

And cutting the other cake

There was lots of music and dancing, and Maggie did her darnest to monopolize Scott for all the dancing she could talk him into and tire him out with. She had a blast.

Jamie got to have his very first wedding cake. He liked it.

Unfortunately at one point Maggie managed to get a chair folding up under her & got a finger pinched. Didn't seem to be seriously hurt, though.

Maggie dancing with Scott some more! He had been just tired out, but they played something he couldn’t resist.

Later I dragged him out to dance, because he was complaining that he hadn't gotten to dance with anybody over the age of consent, or actually even the age of potty training. By then everybody else from the Bujold table had long since gone home. We went back to the hotel and crashed - Scott called in for the police report, and got to hear some of Maggie's Storytime reading while waiting for the fingerprint guy.

Sunday morning we eventually got up, and the Gallaghers and Scott met the Millers for breakfast in the little coffeshop/restaurant next to the hotel. They were pretty much done, as they'd gotten to bed MUCH earlier than we had, but they stayed and socialized while we ate. Eventually we all headed out.

We did stop on the way back at a McDonald's with a playplace so Maggie could stretch her legs a bit. She had a blast. We got her the new appleslices they're doing instead of fries and she was very happy with that.

We finally got home and just sorta collapsed as my brain went into shutdown mode. I'm sure it will come back up soon.
