Eggses

I have just had SUCH a Miles Moment.

I have been running various and sundry Prepping For FenCon errands today. The most recent of these was a grocery run; the list included eggs. I'd been thinking I wanted more than a dozen, was expecting to get 2 - then I saw they had packages of 18, fine, that'll do. I noticed they were on sale. 10 packages for $10. 180 eggs?

I instantly thought of Miles in _Memory_. "How many marks had they been paying for eggs? --oh. That was twelve dozen eggs to a crate, not twelve eggs. Miles tried to imagine what he could do with a hundred and forty-four eggs. Maybe back when he'd been thirteen years old. Some opportunities just came too late in life."

I withstood the temptation.

If you get the chance, you have to participate in at least one Wyrd Images scenario.

what?

I beg your pardon? What?

Wyrd Images is the name of one of a group of people who run live-action roleplay scenarios - since they're going to be at FenCon, and you said you were preparing for FenCon, I wanted to put in a good word on their behalf. Their "Ecstasy Virus" scenario is mentioned here: http://www.fencon.org/gaming.html

(If the FenCon you were talking about is something other than the one I thought you were talking about, I apologise for the confusion.)

Ah, I see.

I haven't ever done any live-action roleplaying. I've been wishing I could get back into gaming - I haven't had a chance to do ANY roleplaying for many years. [livejournal.com profile] selenite is getting SOME gaming in, although it's Call of Cthulu which doesn't interest me. We've talked about just him and I doing some together on our own, out of desperation.

I don't know if I'd do any gaming at the con, other than perhaps card games like Fluxx and such. I get into character development and backstory, which it doesn't seem you could really do in the limited time of a con.

Plus there's people there I am really looking forward to socializing with - that may eat much of my time.

Are you going to be at the con, then? (Yes, we are talking about the same FenCon)

Claudia's scenarios are open-ended enough that if you'd rather explore your character's backstory and on character development, you usually have plenty of time to be able to do that (and you don't have a character sheet so much as a page describing who you are and some aspects of what you're like, which you can then fold, spindle and mutilate pretty much to your heart's desire.) Totally understand about how friends can take up the time you'd otherwise spend gaming at the con, though. :)

I'll be there, more likely on Saturday and Sunday than Friday. Made plans for then before I found out about the con.

I just did this last night, it's easy. Actually, I made Sue Ru's "Witchelled Eggs" where you mush up the yolks with enough mayo to make them malleable and a dash or three of curry powder. It's a nice change from plain ol' devilled eggs, especially for those of us who don't believe in devils.

I adore deviled eggs. I prefer vinegar based ones to mayo based ones. My favorite is to take a vinegar based recipe (I use the betty crocker one) but substitute in malt vinegar. YUM.

For these, I'm just going to hardboil them and pack them to the con for snacking food. I have a LOT of prep work to do, and a lot of stuff to pack - trying to do and safely pack deviled eggs would be unworkable.

I just finished making more GFCF muffins for Brendan. I usually mix bananas or pumpkin in, and substitute apple juice for the milk. This time I was making chocolate chip ones for him, so I substituted chocolate soymilk. I'm keeping 6 for eating this week, freezing 12 for the con.
