Woot! My pattern, around the world
Oct. 1st, 2004 01:33 pmOkay, I've mentioned that the Six Sox Knitalong is doing my fluted banister sock pattern for pattern #3?
I'm TOTALLY excited about this.
I do sock knitting for the CIC program, which sends warm socks to children in orphanages in Russia. It's a program I really like working with. At the beginning of the Six Sox Knitalong, we urged people to do a version of the first sock for CIC. (Yes, I did, mine is in a pile of CIC socks I'll be mailing off soon) Well, that was a while ago, and we've had a LOT more people join the list since then. So I wanted to do it again for my sock. Well. We've done it, released the kid and toddler versions first, and have a drawing for those that complete CIC socks before starting the adult socks. They've just extended the deadline from Oct 8th to the 11th, and added a second prize to the drawing. It's only Oct. 1st, and there have been pictures of 28 completed socks already uploaded.
The list moms have urged those with blogs to post about this there, to get more people interested in the project - here's one

Look! My sock pattern, converted from a Victorian wrist cuff pattern into an adult sock pattern, then I converted it into kid and toddler patterns, too, also now made into a toddler vest!
This is so cool.
There's going to be this pile of socks, more than 30 but I don't know how many, plus at least one vest, going off to keep those kids warm - and I'm part of the direct cause of that. We've also introduced the CIC program to a lot of knitters who hadn't heard of it before, we are seeing a lot of questions about it on the SixSox list, and a lot of them sound pretty enthusiastic about doing this, and I think they'll do more in the future.
So all those times I wonder if I've made any difference in the world, if it'll matter if I lived or not? There. That pile of warm wool socks. Those warmer orphan kids. I made a difference. I'm going to save pictures of those CIC socks to my computer, to go look at when I need to remember that.
