Google makes a pretty good quick spellcheck for unusual words. And the little google box on the browser window is lots quicker than opening Word or something for a spellchecker.

Toss "possiblymispelledword" at it, and watch it say 'Did you mean "correctlyspelledword"?'

Karl was slightly appalled at the sheer waste of processing power implied by me casually using it as a spell checker. But why not. I'm already using it as a search engine, and now as webmail. Why not a spellchecker? As long as it's not a floor wax or a dessert topping, right?

I just hope Google isn't on its way to take over the world and become the equivalent of Blue Sun

Yeah, I've run into that with google. Though I usually am googling the correct word. :-)

I think you're very clever to use it as a spell check! I typically just go to M-W.com or open up Word to check if I'm really unsure. But I've got a Google toolbar, so I think I might use it from now on!! :-)

I use dictionary.com, meself. I have a little menu window which can be set to any number of searches, from google to whatever I customize...

But yes, Google is very useful for spellchecking.

Though at the moment our library system is migrating from Dynix to Millenium and all things computerized (even things that ought to be peripheral) are compromised.

But when it's up, nothing beats it. Though it does tend to be distracting: Very hard to stop with just one word!

Well, it didn't work for me at all. I entered "possiblymispelledword" and got back:

Your search - possiblymispelledword - did not match any documents. No pages were found containing "possiblymispelledword".

Hmph. ;)
