that was a nice Thanksgiving
Nov. 26th, 2004 10:11 amWe spent yesterday afternoon/evening at the Tyras' house, at the Thanksgiving they were putting on for ORAC people without one of our own. That was very kind of them. We brought some food and the kids and had a marvelous time. There were 8 adults and the 3 kids. Brendan was mostly off in another room getting to play on the computer and very happy thereby.
Maggie proved she remembered visiting there very well. She'd been asleep in the car when we got there, so I laid her down on the couch and she napped. Later when she woke up, she looked around, apparently recognized the room, and the first thing she said was "where's the doggie?!?" Their Great Dane, Jasmine, is very patient with Maggie. I think Jamie was intrigued, too.
The Thanksgiving feast was utterly delicious. There's a bunch of the traditional thanksgiving foods that I really enjoy and are treats for me. (I say this because I have run into people who would apparently only eat them because it's traditional. Me, the ones that are traditional that I don't care for, I pass on.)
As we chatted, they found out that we had never seen the movie Galaxyquest, so that was the afterfeast entertainment. Very amusing. And then we got to hear some of the filk songs based on it, which actually mean something to us now. So that was a lot of fun.
I'm truly amazed at the Tyras' kindness and dedication when I found out that they were heading out at o'dark-thirty this morning to head to ill relatives, but put on Thanksgiving nonetheless. I hope their trip goes well.
After discussing Alan Rickman's performance in Galaxyquest and other movies, on the way home, I remembered that Prisoner of Azkaban was out, and we stopped at Walmart on the way home. We also found a replacement video copy of Rikki Tiki Tavi, ours died a few years back, and this copy was quite inexpensive, so yay.
Today is the quiet joy of "we don't HAVE to do anything today!" Well, except take care of the kids, laundry, dishes, well, we'll see what all we have to do.

Date: 2004-11-26 10:36 am (UTC)I'll see what I can find for you guys. I'd ask the Tyras, except for that little detail that they're currently driving to Indiana. I know the one song was by Steve MacDonald.
