Why do yarn companies have to go and discontinue yarns?

I was trying to find a specific yarn - Fortissima cotton sock yarn, in lavender - technically lilac, color #23. This should not be so difficult! But GAH it is. I've been going through yarn store after yarn store on the phone, and nobody seems to have it. I found one place that had a 100% cotton yarn from the same manufacturer in what she thinks is the same weight and color - I ordered some - here's praying that works.

Grrrrrr.

Housefilk coming up

(Just in case anyone on my flist who'd like to come doesn't read texasfilk or filk)

The Second Annual January Filkers Traditional Birthday Bash and Housefilk will be happening on Saturday, January 28th at the Tyra house in Fort Worth, starting at 5 pm. There are at least 5 local and quasi-local filkers with January birthdays (including selenite and myself), and what better way could we have to celebrate than getting together with friends and filking?

Come and bring your singing voice, your instrument if you play one, your filk books, munchies or drinks, maybe an extra folding chair, bring a friend, but know that all of those are optional. But definitely bring yourself! Come ready to pick, pass, play and enjoy.
