Abundancy and craziness

selenite is home for the evening and was laughing over something on the computer. I asked, and he told me this guy put a jet engine on a VW Bug. I said why, does he want it to FLY? He said "an engineer with too much time on his hands."

I pointed out that hey, this was a sign of the ongoing shift from scarcity economics to abundancy economics that he talks about now and then. You end up with people who can have this much time on their hands left over from supporting themselves, and can afford the materials to do something like that.

Then I said to him "oh dear, did I just define an engineer geek putting a jet engine into a Bug as a sign of progress?"

Apparently so.

Well, a side-effect of progress, maybe?
