celticdragonfly: (Firefly - going mad)
I don't know if the plan for this weekend, to go to Austin so I can see the Yarn Harlot on her book tour, is going to happen or not.

Jamie hasn't gotten sick. Maggie is still sick, but I think she's getting better. She told me this morning that "the sick is going away faster". So that's hopeful.

But hotels, that is a problem. I started looking up hotels. The yarn store is at 1701 S. Congress, the museum [livejournal.com profile] selenite wanted to take the kids to is 1800 N. Congress, and the Congress Ave. bridge that we'd like to see the bats come out from under Friday evening is halfway between.

Any hotels near that are really expensive. There was one that sounded nice and quirky and we could afford, and it's totally booked. [livejournal.com profile] fordprfct found one for me only a little farther out and affordable - and I read the reviews and it sounds scary and filthy. [livejournal.com profile] selenite had me look farther out, in a northern suburb called Round Rock - and even there, the cheap stuff had reviews making it sound scary and filthy, and the non-scary stuff was expensive.

And today Jamie has speech and I have a doctor's appointment, so I don't know if I'm going to find much time to keep looking.

I have just finished and submitted my Pegaus award nominations ballot. Whew.

You can do it too, O Filkers, it's here
http://ovff.org/pegasus/2006/2006nomballot.html

until midnight on July 31st.

Rather than me try to explain them in my own words, I shall shamelessly steal a post on it from [livejournal.com profile] cadhla, which is what encouraged me to do it.
August is fast approaching, o my dears and my darlings, and when it gets here, it's too late to participate in a process that's very near and dear to my heart. And that's why I'm asking you, if you haven't already done so, to take a moment to answer this very, very important question:

Have you submitted your Pegasus Nominations yet?

Seriously, have you? Because the nomination period only runs until midnight PST on July 31st. California gets August, and nominations close. (This is so the Pegasus Committee can get the final ballot done by WorldCon, and so that people remain vaguely sane.) That means you only have five days left to get your ballot in!

What am I talking about? Well, the Pegasus awards, given annually at the Ohio Valley Filk Festival, represent the voice of the filk community. They let us say what songs, performers, and composers we love and want to honour every year. There's a brainstorming period, during which we all go 'golly, wouldn't it be neat if _____ won a Pegasus!', followed by the nomination period. After nominations close, a ballot is determined from the various votes, and is opened for all to use.

A quick note: the brainstorming poll is provided to help you become aware of songs, performers, and composers that you might not have heard of -- it's there to give you ideas and expand your horizons, not limit you. If you want to nominate someone who isn't on the brainstorming poll, go right ahead!

So please, please, take a moment to view the brainstorming results and make your nominations for this year's Pegasus ballot, either by following the links above or by using the following URL:

http://ovff.org/pegasus/2006/2006nomballot.html

The more nominations we get, the better the final ballot will reflect the desires of the global filk community, and the happier I'll be.
I feel a little funny doing it, when I've never even made it to an OVFF. I want to, oh so bad, I've been wanting to go to OVFF for a decade.

Well, at least my nominating ballot is going.

GAH!!!!

Jamie just broke his glasses again.

Bent up, both lenses out.

I'm going to have to drive him to Southlake again tomorrow morning, early.

I AM CRANKY ABOUT THIS.

I'm wishing to use all sorts of very bad words I wouldn't want him to learn.
