celticdragonfly: (Alanna 6-19-07)
I'm tired out this week and catching up from being on the computer, but I did want to get this posted.

Alanna had her "six weeks" appointment with the midwife on Wednesday. If you've been following along, you'll realize she's 7 weeks old - Lisa was out of town last week.

There were exclamations of WOW when I came in with her. I handed her over to Lisa to weigh. 15 lb 5 oz. Wow indeed. Lisa looked at me with a straight face and deadpanned "You might want to think about supplementing with formula, failure to thrive, you know" She and the other midwife were then laughing and talking about how Alanna's clearly been getting CREAM!

She's 24" long now, so gaining length as well as weight. We pointed out that we've had to go up to the 6-9 month size for the outfits to be long enough for her torso.

She's in great health. There's no sign of the heart murmur anymore, so that's good. I thoroughly enjoyed showing her off to the midwives, playing pass-the-baby, and rhapsodizing about what a marvelous SWEET child she is. They realized they hadn't done a picture of her at birth, so took a shot of her in my arms on the couch. Man, any nervous first-time mothers going through the albums and finding that picture are gonna panic. "No, no, you will NOT give birth to a child that size!"

My blood pressure sucked, which is a shame since it HAD been better after the pregnancy. But it was a hot day, I'd been working, and not drinking water. Also my diet, no dairy to avoid colic for Alanna, has not been great on the BP front.

So as of that evening, we've started carefully reintroducing dairy. After all, gestationally she's 9 weeks, and they say they outgrow the colic at 2-3 months. I had *one* slice of swiss on a sandwich Wednesday. No colic. Two pieces of cheesy garlic toast yesterday - no colic. So I'm suspecting we're good, although I'm going to ramp it up slowly. Yay.
