Here's a shot of Alanna from last week, on the 12th. She's continuing to improve on rolling over, and pushing up like that on her tummy, and being happier about the whole process. She's also teething madly.

Jamie got home from school, and after taking off his backpack, jacket, and shoes - and tossing the shoes into the shoe bin with a Miss Piggyesque HIIII-YAH!, possibly we need to back off on letting him see the Muppet show - he went over to see his baby sister.

Dixie song

I've noticed this a number of times, but had Karl (who is home sick, poor man) sitting near me and mentioned it, and then rolled the song back to play it for him. The song "Sweet Southern Comfort" nails the Nine Nations definition of Dixie.

Names various states - every state it names is a state that's totally in his definition of Dixie. Any state that is a border state gets named by city only, not state. The Texas city named is the one Garreau defined as the triple point border of Dixie, Breadbasket, and Mexamerica. Doesn't mention Florida at all, which Garreau mostly categorizes (rightly, I think) as part of the Islands.

Okay, so I'm being a geography and culture geek. I find the central conceit of that book to be extremely useful.

Okay, I have made up my mind in 4 of the 6 categories.

Go vote, filker friends! You have until the 22nd.

I am highly amused that one of the songs nominated for "Best Song of Home" is a filk of another of the songs nominated in the same category. Go, filkers! Good meta work there.

I have not gotten caught up on my email post-sick.

I need to. One of my literary lists is having a group discussion on a book I like. I need to leap in and catch up.

I'm totally blocked on doing it.
