Grrrrr running out of yarn
Feb. 22nd, 2005 11:09 amLion Brand Magic Stripes yarn - available at Hobby Lobby, the only usable sock yarn that I don't have to order online or go to a specialty yarn shop for. And cheaper than other sock yarns, and nicer to the touch than that *^$%(&* Wildfoote I just recently suffered through (and am not buying again).
"One ball makes a pair of socks!" Apparently only true if you're a women's medium or smaller. I'm about to run out of yarn, just before I get to the toe reductions of the 2nd sock. GRRRR.
I suppose I'll end up buying another ball, finishing the sock, and then using the rest to make a pair of socks for Maggie or something.
But GRRRR!
I get SO tired of having to rewrite every sock pattern because I'm a woman's large. I get so tired of seeing posts about knitalongs go by that there's no point in me even looking at, because they're for sweaters and such, and I KNOW the pattern won't go up to my size. I've got a kit for a pair of summerweight cotton anklets that I want to start on next, and I'm afraid there won't be enough yarn there for my size. I am so TIRED of being my size. And it's not just weight, so nobody start pressuring me to lose weight - I could starve myself until I go psychotic and I wouldn't get size 7 feet.
GAH.

Date: 2005-02-22 05:44 pm (UTC)Vis a vis the sweater sizes...I can always help you out there by increasing sizes. I do that all the time....making a child size sweater into a small adult size (for Allan), or making a sweater that only goes to large (don't EVEN get me started) into a 2XL for my dad. It is all about figureing out the gauge, then increasing by the right amount of stitches. I'm terrible at math, but I can do this. Go figure. Of course, I usually buy at least another skien if I'm increasing sizes. Kits are right out for me because they never have enough yarn for me to use for some reason.

Date: 2005-02-22 05:45 pm (UTC)cool boots on the cheap, because shoe stores cater to the drag queens and I hit the clearance rack. Platform laceups for $10.Woot!

Date: 2005-02-22 08:00 pm (UTC)Then realized that although I like boots, I would NOT want platform laceups. And even large size boots, I'm going to have troubles, because I have curvy calves and they don't fit.

Date: 2005-02-22 06:01 pm (UTC)(raises hand) Me too, only for me it's length of garments. Lane Bryant and associated catalogs are better than most about offering 'tall' as well as 'petite' options for those of us who aren't medium height, but there are still clothes in their catalog sized for everyone _but_ me. Bluntly, petites can take in a sleeve or a pants cuff an inch or so with very little trouble -- pants and sleeves too _short,_ on the other hand, look like Frankenstein clothes with no recouse. Even if I had extra fabric and sewing talent, the extension seams would show.
My shoes are 11's -- actually easier to find than the 10 1/2 I used to need when I was skinny. But mostly I reject shoes for structural flaws incompatible with my bad foot tendons/heel spurs.

Date: 2005-02-23 12:39 am (UTC)While it will only help for sport shoes, I suggest you try New Balance.
They have a wide varity of size and shapes. Here is a link to the "fitting" page. I Love my New Balance shoes. I can order them long enough, wide enough and they have great support for heavy people. Plus many of them are made in the USA.

Date: 2005-02-23 02:58 am (UTC)My husband wears New Balance sneaks. He wears a 10.5 EEE -- he can't find that size in any other manufacturer.

Date: 2005-02-22 11:59 pm (UTC)They didn't have it. It's the purple stripes one, purple and gray and blue. Pity they didn't have it. I got the original ball at the Hobby Lobby up at Rufe Snow and the 820, so I'll try to get there sometime soon. I thought about going there before coming home, but I didn't want to end up there during rush hour, the traffic gets ooky.

Date: 2005-02-23 04:28 am (UTC)Distance wise the Rufe Snow store is closer to where I live, but travel-time wise the Hulen store is better. I can hardly wait until the store in Lake Worth opens, only five minutes from home and that's if I hit all the red lights.
