Maggie thoroughly enjoys the music from Sound of Music and is learning more and more of it each time she watches it. I'd like to have the music to work with her on outside the video. I'd like to get rolls of the songs for our player piano - but that gets pricey pretty quickly. So I'm wondering if I can find sheet music of really simple arrangements of these songs. I can read music, just not terribly fast, and I can pick things out on the piano. (I can do a bit better on the harp, and should be able to use most piano music there, too.) If I can get it, I can help Maggie learn more singing, and it might even be a good introduction to music on the piano.

Anybody able to help me with this?

I might be able to - I'll see how much of what music I have at home, and bring it up with me if I find it.

It's really cool that she's picked such a wonderful musical to enjoy!

Yay, thanks.

I will claim some of the credit for having found it and repeatedly played it. And I encourage her - we sing the songs together, we dance together to the music some, or I encourage her to dance with her brother and her dolls.

I could use suggestions for other good family-positive musicals. It's amazing how many things I've loved I now cringe at showing my kids - like My Fair Lady, it's great, but it's so misogynistic in so many ways, I cringe to have them learn from it at this age.

Check for the "easy piano" arrangements? I know I have music to some of those songs, but I don't think they're easy. I'll check.

I have a great Disney Family Singalong book that has songs from the Lion King and Pocahontas and similar movies, too.

Look for "fakes" books. They sometimes have easier to play versions.

I definitely used to have the basic (very basic!) arrangements. I'll see if I still have them.

Believe it or not, larger library systems (like mine) actually carry this stuff. Which means that your library system can order it. I mean, would you ever, in your wildest dreams, have expected to find The Sound of Music scores for trombone.

Hmm... Just in case you get the Gooney Librarians of Unhelpfulness, here's the links from our database for the appropriate stuff:

Sound of Music. Vocal Score

Sound of Music. Vocal Score. Selections.

I just tried eBay with keywords:
player piano rolls "sound of music" and got two items, one of the title song and the other of a medley of the film's songs, both under $10. I don't know if you do eBay at all but it might be a place to find good rolls cheap!

I have tried eBay for piano rolls in the past. It's been disappointing. Mostly because rolls are usually sold in lots, and I might see one in 4 that I want, if that good. The other reason is that some of the rolls I've gotten from eBay have been in pretty poor condition - I guess some people are into collecting them as antiques, but for me, I intend to play them, and it's really difficult to know if they'll be up to repeated playing. Most eBay sellers don't know anything about piano rolls.

I'd prefer to get the individual songs, not the medley.
